Central air conditioners are the best way to make sure that your home stays comfortable on even the hottest and most humid days of the summer. However, if you find that your home isn’t quite as cool as it used to be on those hot days, it might be time to have your AC unit inspected, as it may need a recharge.
Every air conditioner needs to be serviced from time to time, and ensuring that yours is operating properly when the summer rolls around just makes sense. Getting your AC unit checked by a trained professional helps identify problems before they get worse and you end up with a broken air conditioner.
There are a few telltale signs that your air conditioner needs to be serviced:
Air is not as cool
The most obvious sign that your air conditioner might need a recharge is that the air is just not as cool as it used to be. Simply placing your hand over the vent while the air conditioner is running can let you know if it’s blowing cold air or not. If the AC is running and the air just doesn’t feel cool, it might be time for a recharge.
Running all the time
If the air conditioner needs to run constantly to maintain the temperature you set on your thermostat, it’s a good sign that the unit is not able to cool your home efficiently. If you find that the unit is always running, even on days where it’s not quite as hot, you should book an appointment to have it inspected to see what the problem might be.
Energy bill increasing
If your energy bill is more expensive during the summer months than it used to be, that is a typical sign that your air conditioner is running longer, working harder, and using more energy. A properly maintained air conditioner is simply more efficient, and does a better job of cooling your home, so having it inspected will help pinpoint the problems.
Of course, if you start to notice all of these things happening at the same time, it may be best to simply replace your aging central air conditioner with a newer, more energy-efficient model. Not only will this save you money every month from lower energy usage, but new AC units are also much quieter than older ones, which cuts down on the noise in your yard when the unit is running.
